Fantasy Football Quarterbacks to own -
Andrew Luck brings a new face to the completely revamped Indianapolis Colts offense. He is a big, strong guy with a very high football IQ and will turn out to be a very good NFL Quarterback, but don’t expect to much from him this year in Fantasy football. He could end up serving teams well towards the end of the season and possibly in you fantasy football playoffs, but he is going to suffer some growing pains early in 2012 as he adjusts to the speed of the game. Look to draft him as a backup quarterback late in your draft and temper your expectations.
Fantasy Football Running Backs to Own -
Donald Brown and Delone Carter are in for a season of running back by committee (RBBC) in Indianapolis which is why I would stay away from either one until later in your fantasy football draft. One may be listed as the starter, but look for Brown to get the ball more in the open field and Carter to get the lions share of goal line duties. There are better options out there so do not reach for either of these two backs on draft day.
Fantasy Football Wide Receivers to Own -
Reggie Wayne is the only wide receiver that you truly want to invest a draft pick in Indianapolis this season. Wayne has the talent to provide a productive fantasy season with just about any bum as the signal caller. You can view Wayne a #1 wide receiver for fantasy purposes and you should draft him as such. Leave all other Colts wide receivers for the waiver wires and see how they pan out if times get tough.
Fantasy Football Tight Ends to Own -
Coby Fleener spent most of his college career catching passes from Andrew Luck as one of his top targets. Luck knows where Fleener will be on the field and that will provide him with a familiarity that most rookie quarterbacks are not provided with. This connection should significantly add to Fleener’s development and upside for fantasy football purposes and in real life. He should slip to the later rounds in most drafts so do not hesitate to add Fleener and be pleasantly surprised as the season progresses.
Fantasy Football Place Kicker to Own -
Adam Vinatieri is a very dependable kicker and one of the most clutch kickers of our era. He should go in the top tier of players drafted at his position as the Colts should move the ball just enough to give him lots of field goal attempts this year while also chipping in a few extra points here and there.
Defense / Special Teams -
The Colts defensive unit is still a work in progress and should be drafted as such. They do have some great individual pieces that you should focus on in your IDP fantasy football leagues such as Dwight Freeney, Robert Mathis, and Pat Angerer, but if you are drafting a team defense you should leave them for someone else. The Colts defense will be spending a lot of time on the field this year which could lead to many points scored against them.
