Fantasy Football Quarterbacks to Own -
Blaine Gabbert was absolutely terrible last year for the Jaguars. The blame cannot all be laid on him however as the wide receiving corps in Jacksonville was one of the worst groups in recent memory. This year the Jaguars have upgraded their wide receivers and brought in a solid quarterback in Chad Henne. If he cannot show major improvement this year out of the gates I see Gabbert being replaced by Henne by week 6. Proceed with caution when drafting Gabbert and do not invest to highly in him if at all for fantasy football purposes.
Fantasy Football Running Backs to Own -
Maurice Jones-Drew was on one of the worst offensive teams in the league last year and still managed to lead the league in rushing. He is a top 10 fantasy football draft pick and nobody would be surprised if you took him in the top 5. Hopefully his contract holdout does no linger much longer as it may affect him the same way it did Chris Johnson last season. With an upgraded passing game MJD should see holes more often than he did last season with the focus not directly on him every down. Keep a watchful eye during training camp for the next running back to emerge as an immediate backup plan should Jones-Drew’s holdout extend into the season. IF you do happen to land his replacement, temper expectations. It takes a special player to succeed on this type of team.
Fantasy Football Wide Receivers to Own -
Laurent Robinson, Justin Blackmon, and Lee Evans were all brought in this off season to try and bring life back into the Jaguars passing game. Robinson should step in as the #1 wide receiver for fantasy purposes after a breakout 2012 campaign with the Cowboys. Blackmon, this years first round pick, has the potential to be an amazing NFL talent, but has let off field issues stunt his growth before it has even begun. He should be drafted as a #3 fantasy wide receiver or even possibly a flex with great upside. Keep in mind that if Gabbert performs as the quarterback he was drafted to be these two could provide a much higher return and great value considering where they should be drafted.
Fantasy Football Tight Ends to Own -
Marcedes Lewis was one of the players most hurt by Gabbert this last season. After posting great numbers in 2010 Lewis’s numbers took a dramatic drop in 2011. If the passing game can get back on track Lewis can be a very deadly weapon in the red zone with his size and speed. Lewis should slip to the later rounds of your fantasy football draft so if you want to focus on other aspects of your team first, Lewis should be there to fill the tight end spot and provide good value.
Fantasy Football Kickers to Own -
Josh Scobee is a very dependable kicker that has a big leg. When asked to kick it deep he usually can answer with a big kick. The Jaguars should be in position quite a bit this year for field goals so Scobee should be one of the top scoring fantasy football kickers this year. Feel free to draft him when the kickers start to go off the board later in your draft as he will provide solid value.
Defense / Special Teams -
If the Jaguars offense can stay on the field more this season it should greatly benefit the defensive side of the ball. I still would not want them on my fantasy team as a collective unit, but Paul Posluzney is a tackling machine and should be considered a high end fantasy football IDP linebacker in 2012.
