Fantasy Football Quarterbacks to Own -
Christian Ponder is entering his second season in the NFL and it looks to be a rough road ahead. With no major upgrades at the wide receiver position and with Adrian Peterson’s status up in the air, it may be best to let Ponder sit on the waiver wire. He may be worth a flier in fantasy football dynasty leagues.
Fantasy Football Running Backs to Own -
Adrian Peterson has been among the cream of the crop in fantasy football since his introduction into the league, but his injury near the end of last season has put 2012 in question. There is no doubt that when healthy he is a legitimate top 3 fantasy football running back on draft day, but the question remains is he going to be the same guy after surgery and if so when? I still don’t see him falling outside of the 1st round, but if you do take the gamble, be sure to pick up Toby Gerhart before someone else does.
Fantasy Football Wide Receivers to Own -
Percy Harvin is by far the #1 WR in Minnesota. His ability to take the ball out of the back field adds to his value every Sunday and with Peterson’s lingering injury he could be in line for a very heavy workload in the upcoming season. His only downside is the ongoing migraines that he suffers from that can pop up at any given time. I would view him as more of a number two fantasy football wide receiver with high upside on any given week. If you are able to get him anytime after the second round he should bring you great return.
Fantasy Football Tight Ends to Own -
Whoever does emerge as the Vikings starting Tight end could be in line for a decent season in 2012. Christian Ponder could use a security blanket and the tight end position generally fills that role. I would leave the Vikings Tight ends on the waiver wire to start out the season and grab one if any start to produce.
Fantasy Football Kicker to Own -
Ryan Longwell is a dependable kicker who has been in the league for a really long time. His leg is not quite what it once was and the Vikings actually spent a draft pick on a kicker from Georgia named Blair Walsh. All of this being said there are other options that you should shoot for before drafting a fantasy football place kicker with Minnesota as the offense is just too anemic. You may not be able to rely on them for week to week production.
Defense/Special Teams -
The Vikings defense as a unit is one to avoid. Their secondary is lacking and can be passed on quite frequently. They will be spending a lot of time on the field with their above noted offensive issues and will most likely be gassed at the end of a majority of their games. Individually you can target Jared Allen and Chad Greenway as they should all contribute every week to your Fantasy squad. Jared Allen is historically amongst the top IDP (individual defensive players) performers when it comes to sacking the quarterback.
