Fantasy Football Quarterbacks to Own -
Michael Vick was considered by many to be the number one overall pick in 2011. While Vick produced at a relatively high level most weeks he still fell victim to the injury bug and missed three games. It is because of this injury that most fantasy football pundits have Vick ranked in the latter portion of their top ten quarterbacks (I have him ranked 6th among passers in 2012) Injury concerns aside, I think Vick is a great value this upcoming season. We all know the type of play-maker Vick can be and we all know the kind of fantasy points he can put up. If you land Vick in the 2nd or 3rd round, consider yourself lucky. There aren’t any other fantasy football quarterbacks on this roster worth owning or drafting even if you do have a vested interest in Vick. If Vick goes down again this season, look elsewhere for your replacement. The Philadelphia quarterback depth chart does not look promising beyond Michael Vick.
Fantasy Football Running Backs to Own -
Lesean McCoy is a sure fire top three overall pick this year and my top ranked fantasy football player overall. Twenty touchdowns will be hard to repeat but McCoy should easily offer up another double digit touchdown season. The offense really runs through this guy and he has no competition in the backfield. If you are picking outside of the top three this season, the only way you will land McCoy is if your fellow league members do not yet realize the dearth at running back this season or if someone grabs Aaron Rodgers early. McCoy’s backup is a guy named Dion Lewis (also played College football at Pittsburgh) I would recommend handcuffing McCoy as your investment will be high if you land him. Head coach Andy Reid seems to think Lewis could shoulder the load heaven forbid the situation should arise. Don’t worry, Lewis will not be on anyone's radar making his draft day price tag nice and low.
Fantasy Football Wide Receivers to Own -
Two names come to mind right away; Jeremy Maclin and Desean Jackson. I personally cannot stand Desean Jackson as an athlete. His is a rare talent with unbelievable speed and ability but his work ethic seems to be lacking every season. If his head is screwed on right, he can be absolutely unstoppable. Of the two I strongly prefer Jeremy Maclin. He is a bigger target and might be just as fast as Jackson. In addition, he has not yet displayed the same attitude problems that have thus far plagued Jackson’s young career. Both players can be had for a relatively low draft day price tag, therefore I consider both to be a nice value in 2012. Look to grab Maclin somewhere between the 6th - 9th Rounds while Jackson can be had anywhere from the 10th - 14th round. In deeper leagues keep you eye on Jason Avant. Avant has quietly been a productive fantasy football wide receiver playing out of the slot. Don’t expect him to win you many games but he can be used in spot duty. If one of the top two wide receivers goes down Avant would step right in and fill the void nicely.
Fantasy Football Tight ends to Own -
Brent Celek is a decent number two fantasy tight end. Michael Vick simply does not look for his tight end the same way Donovan Mcnabb did. Couple that with the play calling (Celek’s number is rarely called for a deep ball) and you have an excellent real life football player but a lack luster fantasy football tight end.
Fantasy Football Kickers to Own -
Alex Henery was taken in the 4th round of the NFL draft in 2011 which is pretty high for any kicker. Aside from a few early season missed Henery was impressive throughout the majority of 2011. Look for Henery to improve on his rookie season and maybe kick some longer field goals in 2012. His offense’s potential should be reason enough to pick the Philly Kicker in the last round of your fantasy football draft.
Fantasy Defense/ Special Teams -
Projected by many to be a top 5 fantasy football defense in 2012 Philadelphia should be flying high on both sides of the ball this season. They have a tremendous pass rush lead by Jason Babin and Trent Cole. They have DeMeco Ryans shoring up the line backing corps and one of the best secondary’s in the league with Nnamdi Asomugha and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. Factor in Jackson’s electric punt return ability and you have a defense I am buying as a unit in 2012. If you play IDP leagues, you should have no problem finding talent to plug into your roster on a weekly basis.
