Start Em ‘
All Raiders –
The Saints Defense managed to bottle up Michael Turner last week and he’s a lot better than Marcel Reece; so he is sitting for my teams but I could see a fantasy owner starting him and getting decent results. That’s more of a gut call than anything. Other than that, I am getting all of my Raiders out there including Darrius Heyward-Bey, Brandon Meyers, Denarius Moore and Carson Palmer. I’m expecting a big game through the air as the Raiders try to keep up. They just might abandon the running game which is part of my reasoning for keeping Marcel Reece on the bench.
Reggie Bush –
Look I know he was benched last week and I am aware that his numbers have been declining over the past few weeks but I think this prime time Thursday nighter is when Reggie Bush reasserts himself. The Buffalo Bills are dead last against the run making this a very inviting matchup.
Felix Jones –
Feels kind of gross having Felix Jones in the “start em’ category but the Cleveland Browns defense is pretty bad against both the run and the pass. Felix Jones has been contributing on both ends lately and Demarco Murray should sit out at least one more game. Felix Jones has amassed 400 yards from scrimmage since week 6 on 85 touches. Not amazing production but he should prove serviceable. I have been burned before by Felix Jones but I think he is safe play this week for those in need of a running back.
Ryan Mathews –
He hasn’t looked good in the last few outings and this Broncos defense is rather stout against the run yielding just 98.3 yards per game opposing running backs. I think Peyton Manning comes out guns blazing in this one forcing the Chargers to play catch up. If you have any other viable options consider letting Mathews ride the pine in this one.
Matt Forte –
Second week in a row Matt Forte makes this list but once again, the match up warrants the recommendation. The 49ers are tough as nails and with Jay Cutler likely out this week those 49er’s linebackers will be able to focus most of their attention on Matt Forte. He has the skills to overcome the match up but he sure didn’t get it done against the Texans last week. Let him sit if you can afford to.
Torrey Smith & Joe Flacco –
Joe Flacco on the road is never good. Throw in a match up against the top ranked Pittsburgh pass defense and you have a recipe for disaster. I don’t feel good about starting any Baltimore Raven aside from Ray Rice. If you have no better options available to you put them in but temper expectations.

Start Em‘ -
Jay Cutler - The Bears face off against the 29th ranked Tennessee Titans pass defense. I would never recommend leaning on Jay Cutler as your weekly fantasy starter but if you have Tom Brady on a bye this week you could do much worse. I do think this game will be much more competitive than people think so don’t worry about the Bears running out the clock.
Darrius Heyward-Bey - The Tampa Bay Buccaneers rank 31st in the league against the pass and just traded away one of their best defensive backs (Aqib Talib was suspended anyway) The Raiders like to pass (13th in the league as of this writing) and this one could be a shoot out.
Reggie Bush - Reggie has been unspectacular lately but he should get back on track this week against the woeful Colts rush defense (currently 27th against the run) There have been some rumbling that this is now a time share but make no mistake Reggie Bush is still the feature back in Miami. He will reassert himself in week 9.
Sit Em’ -
Fred Jackson / CJ Spiller - This one may seem obvious with the Houston Texans only giving up 83 yards per game on the ground and 0 touchdowns to opposing running backs but some may have no better options. If you have any options at all you must consider them. There is a very real chance neither running back goes over 50 yards and praying for a touchdown seems foolish. Look elsewhere this week.
Benjarvis Green-Ellis - Coming off the bye he may have shaken out the cobwebs. We’ll find out on Sunday when the Bengals face the stout Denver defense. The numbers have the Broncos ranked 15th against the run but this Denver defense is on fire and will have their ears pinned back. I bet the run gets taken away from the Bengals sooner than most think in this one.
Eli Manning - This Pittsburgh defense still has some gas in the tank and ranks number one in the league against the pass through 8 weeks. That said they really haven’t faced a strong quarterback hitting on all cylinders yet either. Since Eli is not hitting on all cylinders right now he should be hitting your bench.
