Week one is upon us and one game is already in the books. The Cowboys and Giants gave us some second half fireworks on Wednesday night but there is still a lot of football left to be played. With 15 games still on the schedule there are many questions we would all like to have answered. Will Adrian Peterson suit up? How many touches will Maurice Jones-Drew get despite not starting? How is Arian Foster’s Knee? Is Stevie Johnson over his groin injury? While I do not have the answers to these questions I can offer some insight on how I think things will shake out in each game.
Indianapolis at Chicago –
The receiver with the biggest name on the field will be Brandon Marshall who I’m sure will put up some numbers. The receiver with the biggest game on the field will be Reggie Wayne who showed nice chemistry with rookie quarterback Andrew Luck in the pre-season. I doubt the Colts are in this one late but let’s not forget, garbage time counts too and the Colts will be down and passing.
Philadelphia at Cleveland–
Expect Philly to get up big in this one providing a ton of carries for Lesean McCoy. McCoy should easily surpass 100 yards rushing and score once or twice. Don’t be surprised if this entire Eagles offense goes off in this one, but the ground game should come out on top as the Eagles try to Salt away the game. Do not expect over 100 yards for the Rookie Trent Richardson. Something tells me his touches will be limited as he recovers from his latest knee surgery.
New England at Tennessee–
I see fireworks in this one. We all know the Patriots will come out swinging and the Titans will be playing keep up. Tennessee should pull out all the stops giving their key players ample opportunity to gain you fantasy glory. Start all Titans!
(Aside from Kenny Britt)
Atlanta at Kansas City –
Kansas City gets to unveil their new smash and dash/thunder and lightning offense with Peyton Hillis and Jamaal Charles. Both should have solid games and both should score. The Falcons high flying passing attack will need to be utilized in this game as quick strikes will likely be necessary with Kansas City controlling the clock on the ground. Julio Jones gets the yards while Tony Gonzalez and Roddy White get the Scores.
Jacksonville at Minnesota –
The biggest question mark game of the weekend! Don’t be surprised if Toby Gerhart is the leading rusher in this game. I highly doubt Adrian Peterson will touch the ball more than 10 times if he is even on the field at all. On the other side of the football, Rashaad Jennings gets the start and lion’s share of the work but don’t be surprised if Maurice Jones-Drew steals a few goal line looks. Keep an eye on this one as kick-off approaches.
Washington at New Orleans –
For the Saints this should be business as usual, Start all your start-able Saints and enjoy. For the Redskins I love Robert
Griffin III as he will be down and throwing late into the game. Don’t forget his favorite target this preseason was Pierre Garcon (previously with the Colts) I expect big things from both. There is also a good chance Fred Davis reels in a short touchdown pass.
Buffalo at New York Jets –
Big question in this game is how the will the carries be split between Fred Jackson and C.J.Spiller? I feel Fjax retains the bulk of the work but will lose a series or two to the younger, faster Spiller. This Bills Defense is up and coming too I do not expect much from the Jets on Sunday afternoon. Jets Defense is a sneaky play and don’t be afraid to deploy Stevie Johnson if you need to, his groin should be well rested and he has beat Revis Island in the past.
St. Louis at Detroit–
I am expecting a bit of a shootout here (as far as fantasy football goes anyway) I know the Rams are terrible but I feel the Lions
defense might be a little over rated. The Lions will win, but all notable receivers should get scoring opportunities. If Kevin Smith is a go, he is must start number 2 running back in all formats. Sneaky play in this one is Steve Smith out of St. Louis.
Miami at Houston –
Arian Foster was rested during Fridays practice as a precaution but should be a full go on Sunday. Expect a huge game out of him and a solid clock grinding game out of Ben Tate. Once the Texans are up big Ben Tate should get the bulk of the carries. I would not start any Dolphins aside from Reggie Bush and Maybe Anthony Fasano in deeper leagues.
San Francisco at Green Bay –
Green Bay should light up the score board in this one. San Francisco has the league’s top defense and is excellent at stopping the run. It is a good thing Green Bay doesn’t need to run to score. It goes without saying, but start all Packers aside from JamesStarks who is out and has been surpassed by Cedric Benson who could score a close one.
Seattle at Arizona–
Russell Wilson’s debut should go off without a hitch as the Arizona defense should again be deplorable in 2012. I think Russell Wilson will be the games fantasy MVP and this week’s most added quarterback. The Settle defense is up and coming but you still start your studs, Larry Fitzgerald certainly qualifies.I do not trust Beanie Wells or Ryan Williams but feel safe enough to start them if you must.
Carolina at Tampa Bay–
Sneaky pick for game of the week right here. Both defenses are terrible and both offenses have firepower and something to prove. We all know about Cam Newton and Steve Smith but let’s not forget about Josh Freemanand Vincent Jackson. I think the Tampa passing attack reasserts itself making Vincent Jackson a must start from here on out. Carolina wins it, but the Tampa offense shows some life in this week one matchup.
Pittsburgh at Denver–
Sunday night football should provide plenty of fantasy action. I am starting both quarterback and expect big things from both. Willis McGahee should give you 80 yards and touchdown but that Pittsburgh backfield is a different story. If I am starting any of them it would have to be Jonathan Dwyer. Isaac Redman kind of fell into a job and has shown no signs of life this pre-season. Injured or not, you have to show me something for me to start you with any confidence! I think Antonio Brown is the leading receiver followed closely by Eric Decker and both will score touchdowns. Not so sneaky tight end start is Jacob Tamme –
Peyton Manning may lean on him if that pass rush gets heavy.
Cincinnati at Baltimore –
Ray Rice should run wild and punch one or two in. Benjarvis Green-Ellis should score and have decent yardage but nothing to write home about. I think Anquan Boldin gets one of Joe Flacco’s two touchdowns and Jacoby Jones gets the other. The ever popular Torrey Smith should draw the somewhat underrated corner, Leon Hall and get bottled up.
San Diego at Oakland–
This week’s last chance for a fantasy football comeback should not disappoint! Both defenses a dreadful and both offenses know how to put up points. Antonio Gates will be this week’s top scoring tight end and MalcolmFloyd will be San Diego’s leading wide receiver. I am not touching the San Diego rushing attack but if anyone scores a short one it very well could be
full back LeRon Mclain. On the flip side,Darren Mcfadden should have plenty of room to run and Carson Palmer should have plenty of time to pass. I unlike many have Darius Heyward-bey rated higher that Denarius Moore. I think I will be proven right but will not be surprised if both go over the century mark late Monday night.
Best of luck in week one! Write in with all of your last minute roster decisions on Sunday morning!
