Week 3 is upon us and although it is a bit early in the season some teams are already setting themselves apart from others. The Philadelphia Eagles offensive attack looks to be the real deal if you are a defensive coordinator you better be studying massive amounts of game tape to try and slow down their break neck pace. I could only imagine what they would have had in store if Wide Receiver Jeremy Maclin was not injured. On the other hand you have teams such as the Cleveland Browns and the Jacksonville Jaguars that are so terrible that opposing defensive coordinators could be given the week off and still pull out the victory.
I feel bad for my early season BOOM candidate Josh Gordon as he is likely to face a lot of attention now that Trent Richardson has packed his things and headed off to greener pastures not to mention the fact that his starting quarterback from a year ago could be out for multiple weeks. Sheesh.
Michael Vick, Quarterback Philadelphia Eagles – Ladies and Gentleman Michael Vick is back in the building. After suffering through a terrible 2012 in Philadelphia coach Chip Kelly has breathed new life into an Eagles team on the decline. The speed in which they run their offense is without comparison and it just does not allow opposing defenses to set themselves. The big key for Michael Vick in 2013 is his health. Whether or not he can keep up this pace for the entirety of 2013 is a big wait and see, but if so his numbers could be staggering. Based on where you likely got him in your draft his value is probably through the roof. I predict he makes 14 starts this season and ends as one of the top fantasy quarterbacks in the game. BOOM
Desean Jackson, Wide Receiver Philadelphia Eagles – Sticking with the city of Philadelphia we come across another diamond in the rough of your 2013 draft in Desean Jackson. If there was a wide receiver that perfectly into a face paced offensive system that takes advantage of defenses caught slipping over the top it would be Desean Jackson. There are not many players in the NFL that can hit the gear that Desean Jackson can and it has been evident in the first few weeks. I have been hard on Jackson in the past and rightfully so with his diva attitude, lack of going over the middle, alligator arms, etc., but he seems to be buying into this system and his fantasy owners are benefiting. You probably drafted him as your 2nd or 3rd receiver and he is paying off like a 1 +. Look for him to keep it up for weeks to come. BOOM
Robert Griffin III, Quarterback Washington Redskins – I am sure to face some argument here, but RGIII has not looked like himself out of the gate and I see this being an issue throughout the entire year. His mobility is nowhere near what it was last year and the ball does not zip out of his hand like last year either. With a pass defense as terrible as the Washington Redskins Robert Griffin III is going to be spending a lot more time on the field then he truly should in the coming weeks. The Washington Redskins should have tried to ease their franchise quarterback back into the game and not put such lofty expectations on him from the get go. Based on where you probably had to take him in your draft I can guarantee that there is a bitter taste in your mouth at this point in the season. Robert Griffin III is an amazing athlete and will most likely get on track before seasons end, but it may be too late for many a fantasy manager to recover at that point. BUST
Trent Richardson, Running Back Indianapolis Colts – I know that Trent Richardson is a beast and was most likely taken in the top 10 of your fantasy draft this year. Personally I was not high on him based on his situation with Cleveland. As a rookie he put up impressive numbers in a very tough division but with a year to study him the Cincinnati Bengals, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Baltimore Ravens defenses were no doubt going to focus on him in 2013. That is all in the past now and Trent Richardson heads off to Indianapolis to begin what seems to be another long successful run for the Colts. With Andrew Luck and wide receivers like Reggie Wayne and T.Y. Hilton drawing attention Trent Richardson will become a monster. I expect very elevated numbers from him by the seasons end. BOOM
