Derek Carr, QB Oakland Raiders: DraftKings - $6,400
This one seems to be a no brainer for me outside of the fact that teams playing on Thursday night that have played the previous Sunday generally have a tougher time getting the offense running, but a divisional matchup with both teams firing all cylinders rule that out for me. Carr is an MVP in the making if he isn’t already one and truly is matchup proof at this point. I believe that his daily cost is lower this week due to the Thursday matchup, but get hi min your lineup because the price is right!
Jameis Winston, QB Tampa Bay Buccaneers: DraftKings - $6,700
Stacking winston and Evans this week and i think it’ll pay off! What you spend on Evans you can save on Winston who should produce high end numbers in what could easily become one of the weekends highest scoring affairs. Vegas has this one at 51.5 (up from 51 at the open) that number may climb even more between now and Sunday. You want a piece of this game, Winston gives you the best bang for your buck.
Jeremy Hill, RB Cincinnati Bengals: DraftKings - $5,800
Hill has been a disappointment since breaking out in his rookie campaign years ago. He looked to be one of the next top running backs in the league but has turned into a touchdown dependent back that doesn’t show much flash. This week thought brings in the hapless Cleveland Browns and without anyone there to steal his touches, with Giovanni Bernard out for the year, I see Hill giving one of his best statistical efforts. Hill shouldn’t have any problems eclipsing the 100 yard mark while plunging in for a score or two.
Kenneth Dixon, RB Baltimore Ravens: DraftKings - $3,800
Definitely a gut call this week but you get the feeling Baltimore wants to get Dixon the ball more and more. He’s had 4 receptions in each of the last two games (don’t forget, DraftKings is PPR!) and has scored double digit points in each matchup. He is due for a score and I think playing from behind at New England on Monday night he should be heavily utilized and could easily surprise. Mike Evans is expensive so I’m looking to save somewhere, Dixon has the appropriate upside - price combo.
Mike Evans, WR Tampa Bay Buccaneers: DraftKings - $8,900
Doubling down on the Tampa Bay passing attack this week. New Orleans has tightened up lately but is still one of the most favorable matchups for opposing pass catchers. Evans is a target monster and will continue to dominate looks. After getting shutdown last week expect a bounce back in what should prove to be a shootout in Tampa Sunday afternoon. 2 scores and over 100 yards is not out of the question at all.
Jamison Crowder, WR Washington Redskins: DraftKings - $5,600
While traveling to Philly over the first 5 weeks of the season would have been a daunting task that is not so currently. Once thought to be a formidable all around defense has fallen apart over the last two months and is a shell of its early self. Crowder on the other hand has played some extremely consistent football as he manages to rack up yards just about every week and gets in the endzone on a regular basis. Truly with a divisional matchup I see him getting both the yards and the score this week making his potential to cost a bargain.
Ladarius Green, TE Pittsburgh Steelers:DraftKings - $3,900
After a long layoff due to multiple injuries and then being worked slowly into the passing offense Green is ready for some big things down the stretch. A big bodied, pass catching TE Ladarius should be able to pick up plenty of targets with the Bills scheming to shut down superstar Antonio Brown. I think Green gets into the endzone again this week and should put up solid yardage totals as well.
Travis Kelce, TE Kansas City Chiefs - DraftKings - $5,700
Reality Tv star is on fire having posted 3 straight 20+ point outings - all without scoring a touchdown during that time span. The Raiders were a treat for tight ends in 2015 and have been improved so far in 2016 but they are still quite middling. I realize Maclin is coming back this week but i think this only give me more reason to start Kelce. He’ll eat up a few targets but I’m betting Kelce scores in this Thursday night contest putting him above 20 points for the 4th straight week.
Denver Broncos Defense: DraftKings - $3,800
I am going to run them out there just as I did last week and reap the rewards. Tennessee is certainly not as easy of a matchup with their improving and fluid offense, but Mariota is still a young and developing quarterback and will have some issues facing that intense Denver front. He will be on his back more than once and one, maybe two passes will end up in the waiting hands of the Denver secondary.
Cincinnati Bengals Defense: DraftKings - $3,500
They’re playing the Browns who are excited about maybe starting RG3…. do I need to say anything else?
Russell Wilson QB Seattle Seahawks : DraftKings - $6,300
So it boggles my mind a little bit that Wilson is available for such a modest price this week being that he is playing in a primetime matchup on Sunday night, against a reeling Panthers defense, following a loss where they are going to be playing with a chip on their shoulder. Last week Wilson threw 2 picks (which matches what he threw the rest of the season combined) and had his lowest completion percentage of the season and there is no way either of those things happen this weekend against Carolina. I think that he piles up just under 300 yards with 2-3 scores this week while chipping in about 50 yards on the ground.
Drew Brees QB New Orleans Saints : Draftkings - $7,600
With an over/under sitting right around 54 this should be the fantasy game of the week. The only surefire way to know you’ve got the right piece is to start one of the quarterbacks. Both QB’s spread it around a good bit so spend a little more and take Drew Brees at home. He’ll probably throw 4 TD’s and you’ll be able to enjoy not caring who he throws them to with this investment.
Theo Riddick RB Detroit Lions: DraftKings - $5,800
The Detroit Lions have certainly not emphasized much on the run throughout the year, but that is certainly not by design. Multiple injuries from the get go have slowed that aspect of their game and I don’t think that will change much in this weeks matchup with the New Orleans Saints. Why am I recommending a Lions back this week you ask? Well because Theo Riddick is a different style of back more in the mold of Darren Sproles who is an elusive pass catcher out of the backfield. The Lions will have to air it out early and often this week to keep up with the Saints high powered offense and Riddick will be a big part of that from the first snap to the last. 40-45 yards on the ground this week to go along with 5-7 receptions for 55-65 yards and a score are what I see on the horizon.
Jeremy Hill RB Cincinnati Bengals : Draftkings - $4,300
The matchup isn’t great but the price is for the guaranteed touches. Hill proved last week he can be a viable option in the passing game and should continue to dominate touches out the backfield this week. He had 18 touches last week including 6 receptions (don’t forget DK is PPR!) Many will steer clear of Hill after last week’s low rushing total so consider him my contrarian pick of the week.
Sammy Watkins, WR Buffalo Bills: DraftKings - $5,500
There were certainly questions about how explosive Watkins would be when he was able to get back on the field and he answered those pretty quickly last week against the Jacksonville Jaguars hauling in 3 catches for 80 yards on a limited snap count. This week he gets a week Oakland Raiders secondary and more than likely an increased snap count along with a heavier dose of targets. The Bills have a pretty balanced offensive attack so Watkins could get quite a bit of room to operate and he should flourish from this. Add in the fact that they will be in a shootout with the Raiders high powered offense and Watkins could eclipse the 100 yard mark with a score in no time. Start him with confidence this week.
Julio Jones WR Atlanta Falcons : DraftKings - $8,700
Look I know you don’t need to be told to start Julio Jones but… start Julio Jones! He’s coming off a terrible game but he now faces a terrible defense against San Francisco. This could be a signature monster game for Julio and should prove to be a $8,700 well spent by close of business Sunday.
Vance McDonald, TE San Francisco 49ers : DraftKings - $2,900
I have had a hard time deciding who my value play is this week at the tight end position and against a lowly Bears defense Vance seems to be the one that stands out. With his daily cost being low and his quarterbacks trust he could easily land himself in the top 5 at the position this week. 60-70 yards on 5-6 receptions with a score is certainly not out of the question and if I can get that kind of return on such a low investment I am taking that all the way to the bank.
C.J. Fiedorowicz TE Houston Texans: DraftKings - $3,800
Green Bay is pretty leaky against opposing tight ends having allowed nearly 800 yards and 61 receptions to the position on the year. Both teams need this win to keep pace in their respective divisions so expect some fire works. The fact that Brock Osweiller can’t see outside the hashmarks lends great confidence in the emerging tight end this week in such a nice match up. This a great place to recoup the funds spent on Brees and Julio.
Denver Broncos Defense: DraftKings - $3,900
Highest cost on the board this week but going up against an awful Jacksonville Jaguars offense that has no running game to speak of. Von Miller is licking his chops at the idea of running roughshod over the offensive line of Jacksonville and lighting up Blake Bortles. I see multiple sacks, picks and a defensive TD this week.
New England Patriots Defense: Draftkings - $3,700
I know i lean on the Pats a lot but they just make so much sense! The Rams have shown signs of life but they are coming across the country from sunny L.A. to the bitter north of New England. I expect them to get shutdown Sunday afternoon. With the Browns off this week we’ve got to pick on somebody and the Rams fit the bill.
Kirk Cousins, QB Washington Redskins: DraftKings - $5,800
This is a primetime game with a 51 point over/under and two middling pass defenses at best. You want a piece of this game and a $5,800 quarterback is a great place to save some of that budget! Cousins has averaged 24 Draftings points per game over the last 3 match ups so he’s certainly playing some of his best football lately. Cheap piece of this game and you don’t have to worry about who catches the Touchdowns? Count me in!
Marcus Mariota QB New York Giants : Draftkings - $6,700
The 2nd year Titans QB has been on a tear as of late and will face another weak secondary in Week 11 with the Indianapolis Colts. With Delanie Walker being his normal self and the receiving corps starting to come into their own Mariota’s confidence is at an all-time high. Pair that with an elite ground attack and you have the makings of an up and coming playoff team that should leave the Colts defense beat up and bruised. Mariota is a top 5 play for me this week at a middle of the pack price so start him with confidence.
Legarrette Blount RB New England Patriots : DraftKings - $6,400
The 49er’s have easily been the most generous defense to opposing running backs in 2016 having given up over 1,600 yards and 13 touchdowns. The pats are favored by nearly two full touchdowns in this one so i expect Blount to grind the 9er’s into submission in the second half of this one. Don’t panic when he’s got 36 yards and 1 TD in the first half - he’ll roll up at least 100 yards and score before the day is done, maybe more!
Legarrette Blount RB New England Patriots : DraftKings - $6,400
Coming off a 3 TD performance in week 10 against an elite Seattle Seahawks defense, Blount will get somewhat of a breather against one of the worst defenses against the run (or against anyone) in the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers. While he may not put up 3 scores in week 11 I see him having more room to run so his yardage total should be a bit higher this week. Hitting 85-90 yards on 20 carries with 2 scores would be a nice return on his bargain price this week.
(you read that right, we’re both picking Blount this week lock him in at $6,400!)
Kelvin Benjamin WR Carolina Panthers: DraftKings - $7,300
So Kelvin hasn’t exactly been setting the world on fire but this feels like his week! New Orleans is bottom 5 in pass defense and Kelvin is tied for the team lead in targets with 76. The Saints don’t really have anyone on the defensive side of the ball who can matchup size wise for Benjamin or Olsen so one of them is going to go off - Benjamin is due. With a 52 point over/under this is a game you are going to invest in and grabbing your WR1 in the low 7k range is a nice way to start off your lineup!
Deandre Hopkins Wide Receiver Houston Texans : DraftKings - $6,500
I have been burnt a few times this season with WR matchups against the Raiders, but in primetime this week I see a shootout and Hopkins looking like the receiver managers drafted him to be in season long leagues. The Texans are going to have to throw the ball to keep up with the high-powered Raiders offense so Hopkins should be a target monster. I consider DeAndre a top 10 play this week and with his middle of the road price he could bring back a very favorable return for those willing to take the shot.
Martellus Bennett TE New England Patriots : DraftKings - $3,700
90% chance Gronkowski sits out this one simply because he won’t be needed in this contest. The 49ers are a dumpster fire and Belicheck doesn’t care if he hurts their feelings. Look for Brady and company to light up the scoreboard in the first half and I bet Bennett gets in on the action. The over/under is right at 52 and I’m betting 42 of that will belong to the Patriots. The 49ers haven't been overly generous against opposing tight ends this year but they aren’t anything to shy away from either. I can’t pass on Tom Brady’s biggest target for $3,700 - There are a lot worse tight ends at this price point.
Delanie Walker Tight End Tennessee Titans : DraftKings - $5,700
I am going to be doubling down on the Titans this week with Walker and those that follow should be rewarded. He is by far the best and most trusted receiving option in Tennessee and should produce another top tier performance against a weak Colts secondary. I would not be surprised at all if his numbers look similar to last week when he put up well over 100 yards and a score. Hitch yourself to the Walker train and enjoy the ride.
Miami Dolphins Defense: DraftKings - $2,900
The Rams rank 31st in total offense and just replaced their starting Quarterback with a rookie. I can stop there but lets go on. The dolphins have only given up 2 rushing touchdowns in the past 7 games and Todd Gurley has looked overwhelmed this season as it is. That covers both facets of the Rams “offense” so i think Miami for $2,900 is about as nice as it gets!
New York Giants Defense: DraftKings - $3,500
Now I know they haven’t been the best unit throughout the year, but over the last few weeks the Giants have been starting to pull everything together on the defensive side of the ball. In week 11 they get a floundering Chicago Bears offense that just lost their #1 receiving threat in Alshon Jeffrey for at least the next 4 weeks and are running out who and who as their top 2 wide receivers this weekend. Jay Cutler should be under a lot of pressure this week and I see him hitting the dirt while serving up some softballs to the awaiting Giants secondary.
Carson Wentz, QB Philadelphia Eagles: DraftKings - $5,400
The rookie has certainly had his ups and downs in 2016 and that should be expected to continue throughout the remainder of the season, but a matchup with the Atlanta Falcons this week should be beneficial for the young gunslinger. While the Atlanta Offense is running like a fine tuned machine the defense certainly is not. Giving up just about 300 yards a game to opposing quarterbacks and the fact that the Eagles will have to air it out to keep up with the with the previously mentioned Atlanta offense Wentz should be able to put up QB1 numbers at a very discounted daily value.
Eli Manning QB New York Giants : Draftkings - $5,900
I’m looking for cheap Qb’s this week and Eli fits that bill. Cincinnati has given up 16 touchdowns to opposing passers this year and Eli is fresh off a 4 touchdown game against Philly. He could be heating up at the right time for this Monday night showdown and we know he has big games in him. If AJ Green and Andy Dalton do their thing this one could easily get into a shootout. With all the money You’ll need to spend on Mike Evans Eli gives you a great chance a saving some budget while maintaining upside.
Jordan Howard RB Chicago Bears : DraftKings - $6,000
Another rookie gets my nod in week 10 as he should provide a top 10 possibly top 5 rushing performance against a hapless Tampa Bay defense. The return of Jay Cutler as the Bears signal caller in week 8 seemed to spark an offense that had been sputtering since his injury and Howard was a big benefactor. Defenses now must pay close attention to the deep ball to Alshon Jeffrey and that will allow Howard to see some open lanes from here on out. I don’t see him reaching the 200 plus total yards this week, but 125 yards and a score is not out of the question.
James White RB New England Patriots : Draftkings - $4,500
Little bit of a gut call / contrarian play here but the Seattle defense has given up nearly 300 receiving yards to opposing running backs this year. I expect Blount to get shut down and the Seattle secondary to try their best to take away Gronk and the Wr’s so who does that leave? James White and his high ceiling, thats who. Getting a high upside back in your lineup for under $5k leaves a lot of budget for other positions.
Alshon Jeffrey WR Chicago Bears : DraftKings - $6,600
It almost hurts me to write this but I am throwing out another Chicago Bear this week in Jeffrey. He is a stud without question, but without Cutler running the show he was an afterthought because well…no one could get him the ball. Cutler will at times lock in on Alshon and just about everything will head his way so I see a big target number this week. With the aforementioned Howard breaking off some good runs I see Jeffrey benefiting with some lighter coverage and snagging a score or two in week 10. Top 5 play in my eyes this week.
Mike Evans Tampa By Buccaneers : Draftkings - $9,000
I know he’s expensive, I know I’m recommending him two weeks in a row but this guys has 103 targets and he’s already had his bye week! He’s match up proof but even if he wasn’t Chicago is the nicest pound for pound match up for opposing wide receivers in the NFL. they are even worse than the Falcons who Mike Evans torched for 150 and two TD’s a week ago. spend here, pinch pennies elsewhere.
Zach Ertz TE Philadelphia Eagles : DraftKings - $3,700
Well I am doubling up on Eagles this week too, so what? Last week Carson Wentz finally realized that he had a big, sure handed TE to throw the ball to and Ertz caught 8 of 8 for 97 yards against the New York Giants. Knowing that Ertz is going to be that security blanket is going to drive his value up over the rest of the season as Wentz will be able to develop much more confidence hitting him on some shorter routes. I see similar numbers to last week along with a score and that puts him at the top of his position in week 10.
Dennis Pitta TE Baltimore Ravens : Draftkings - $4,000
I need a reason to watch TNF this week. Seriously, what a terrible matchup? Only the Detroit Lions are worse against opposing Tight ends. The Cleveland defense in all its splendor has given up nearly 600 yards and 6 TD’s to opposing tight ends. Pitts himself accounted for about 18% off that yardage by himself back in week two and is second on the team in targets. Start Pitta with confidence this Thursday night.
Arizona Cardinals Defense: DraftKings - $3,700
I know they are one of the more expensive options this week, but it is all about the matchup. With Carlos Hyde still having a hard time the San Francisco 49ers are going to as well. Not being able to set up a decent ground game they will be forced to go to the air with Colin Kaepernick and that doesn’t scare anyone. Get them in your lineup and expect big things this week.
Green Bay Packers Defense: Draftkings - $3,000
The Titans are in the bottom 5 in the league in turnover differential. The Strength of the Green Bay defense is their run stopping which happens to be the strength of the Titans offense. I like Green Bay to force Mariota to beat them with his arm which I’m not sure he can do without his run support loosening things up. He is fresh off a two pick game so even if he is scoring (which could easily happen) the chance for a pick 6 is always there to balance things out. This one could blow up on me but wth all the money spent of Mike Evans we had to make budget cuts elsewhere.
Jameis Winston, QB Tampa Bay Buccaneers: DraftKings - $6,100
It’s not often that I tout a player two weeks in a row especially after said player wasn’t all that I hyped him up to be in the previous week’s matchup, but I am going to go ahead and do that this week with Winston. With a division rival game at home against the Atlanta Falcons terrible secondary I see Jameis and the Buccaneers repeating the success that they had in week one where Winston threw for 4 touchdowns. The Buccaneers running game is in shambles so they are going to be airing it out all night long and with Winston’s low cost I don’t know that there is a better value at the position this week.
Andrew Luck QB Indianapolis Colts : Draftkings - $6,700
Luck has not scored less than 20 in 4 straight weeks and now draws the revived Green Bay Packers. Packers boast a middling and very torch-able pass defense. Couple that with 54 point over/under and an equally touchable pass colts pass defense and you have a recipe for a shootout. You want a piece of this game and Luck’s price tag is $1,100 less than Aaron Rodgers’ buy and start with confidence!
Terrance West, RB Baltimore Ravens: DraftKings - $4,700
2 weeks of irrelevance and people seem to have forgotten about Terrance west and the numbers he was putting up after taking over the starting job in Baltimore, but that is about to change after week 9. In week 7 he faced one of the league’s most stingy run defenses in the New York Jets and then had a bye in week 8. I expect West to be fully recharged and ready to run all over the pitiful Pittsburgh run defense. I see 19-22 touches this week while putting up 85 to 100 yards and a score.
Charcandrick West RB Kansas City Chiefs : Draftkings - $4,400
We’re rolling out the West brothers this week. Really with all the bye its tough to find better options for the price. DraftKings pricing came out before Ware was pretty much ruled out so West is down in the low 4’s. Given the KC Running back usage this should be a steal. Jacksonville isn’t a dream matchup but its not scary either. They have yielded 9 rushing touchdowns this year so crossing the goal line should be about assured. With Ale Smith out look for the Chiefs to lean on West early and often. He proved last year he can handle the load and I’m sure he’s itching to get back in the action in a significant way!
Stefon Diggs, WR Minnesota Vikings: DraftKings - $5,900
With Sam Bradford still manning the QB position for the Vikings it seems that Diggs just does not get the respect that he is due. The only player that made anything happen against the Bears in week 8 is facing a Detroit Lions secondary that is one of the worst in the league to date and should have no problem creating space for himself all day long. I see his week 8 numbers as his floor with the potential to reach 150 and a score in week 9.
Mike Evans Tampa By Buccaneers : Draftkings - $8,500
I recommended Jody Nelson last week against the Atlanta Secondary and he gave us a respectable 19.4 points. Evans is a good bit younger and faster than Jordy at this juncture and unlike Jordy he is about the only target on his team. In fact, Evans is 2nd in the NFL in targets despite already having his bye week (he trails AJ Green by 2 targets) Evans leads the league in receiving touchdowns and I see no reason to think he won’t score in this one. I don't think Atlanta can stop him so spend the extra cash and start him with confidence this week!
Antonio Gates TE San Diego Chargers : DraftKings - $3,000
I was one of the believers that Gates was on his last leg (pun intended) heading into the 2016 season and Hunter Henry was ready to take over the top TE spot in the Chargers passing attack, but it appears Antonio is not ready to ride off into the sunset just yet. Facing a Tennessee Titans defense that has been susceptible to a pass catching TE I see the big, sure handed Gates hauling in 5-7 receptions for 65-80 yards and a score in week 9.
Kyle Rudolph TE Minnesota Vikings : Draftkings - $4,000
Rudolph is a little steep this week at 4k but the lions stink agains the pass. More specifically they stink against Tight ends having given up a league worst 517 yards and 8 touchdowns. Sam Bradford loves Rudolph who actually leads the team in targets through 8 weeks. This should be a huge game for Rudolph, he’ll be worth the extra budget spent come close of business Monday night.
Buffalo Bills Defense: DraftKings - $2,800
If Russell Wilson was his normal self then I would not be going with the Bills Defense in a primetime matchup, but he is not and the entire Seahawks offense is struggling because of it. Add in the fact that the running game for Seattle is a shell of its former self and you have a recipe for a low scoring and defensive minded battle on Monday night. I see a turnover for points being a big turning point in the game and the Bills might just be on the right side of it.
Kansas City Chiefs Defense: Draftkings - $3,500
Well the Patriots are off this week so I can’t plug them in here like I normally do! The Chiefs really know how to get after the quarterback and have shown some real grit scoring double digit points the past three weeks. their opponents the last three weeks? Oakland, New Orleans, Indianapolis. The jaguars are no where near those three teams offensively and the game is in arrowhead. KC Defense is my start of the week.
Jameis Winston, QB Tampa Bay Buccaneers: DraftKings - $5,700
Facing an extremely porous Oakland defense in week 8 Winston and his receiving corps are going to have an absolute field day. I am surprised to see his daily value so low, but my assumption would be that Oakland bleeds yards on the ground as well as through the air and Jaquizz Rodgers has been a workhorse the last 2 weeks filling in for Doug Martin. With the potential for a shootout this week being very high as two young offenses are looking to stake their claim as the best. I see Winston going north of 300 yards with 2 scores while possibly adding another score with his legs.
Aaron Rodgers QB Green Bay Packers : Draftkings - $7,500
As of this writing the over/under is at 52.5. Vegas loves this game and so do I (so should you) Atlanta cannot stop the pass and Green Bay isn’t exactly strong in that department either. Julio is going to do his thing but his $9,600 price tag is to rich for my blood so I’ll look to the Pack-stack this week! Rodgers got rolling last week in another nice Match up and this opponent is even friendly to opposing passers. Many players are still leery of Aaron but you need to get him into at least a few lineups this week. We could be looking at a 4 TD game from ol’ discount double check.
Devontae Booker, RB Denver Broncos: DraftKings - $3,700
In week 7 Booker looked like the running back of the future while filling in for CJ Anderson and in week 8 he is going to get his chance to run the show with CJ sidelined for some time with a knee injury. On top of that he gets a cake matchup with the injury depleted San Diego Chargers and should be able to walk all over them as the Broncos control the clock with the run. Being a rock bottom price and his potential to be among the top 5-7 RBs when week 8 is over make him a steal in Daily Fantasy. I believe that 85-100 yards and a score would be his floor this weekend.
Spencer Ware RB Kansas City Chiefs : Draftkings - $6,800
The Colts have given up at least 118 rushing yards in each of their last three contests and Charles looks to be ailing more than Andy Reed would like to admit. Ware is involved in all aspects of the game since ol’ Andy loves to run the entire offense through the feature back. The matchup is amazing and Ware has been excellent. Start with confidence, he may well be the top scoring running back at weeks end.
Stefon Diggs, WR Minnesota Vikings: DraftKings - $5,600
With an injury, a bye week, and a sub-par performance in week 7 I feel like Diggs is flying quite a bit under the radar this week. The Vikings as a team were awful against the Eagles, but the entire team is going to bounce back this week against the lowly Chicago Bears. In Primetime under the lights Diggs and company will show off why they are one of the best teams in the NFL. If you are looking for a receiver with #1 potential at a #3 price Stefon is certainly your man this week.
Jordy Nelson Green Bay Packers : Draftkings - $7,200
Love Jordy this week… LOVE him this week. Why love? Because nobody loves Jordy right now. He laid an absolute egg last week in a primo matchup so many will shy away. But we are smarter than that aren’t we? Jordy can’t let another amazing matchup slip through his fingers can he? Only the Raiders having given up more passing yards than the Falcons and the Packers can’t stop the pass either so this looks like the shootout of the week. Let your opponents chase last weeks points, I won’t be shocked if Jordy scores at least twice in this one.
Zach Ertz, TE Philadelphia Eagles: DraftKings - $3,600
While Ertz has been slow to get the rust knocked off since his injury he should be able to break a few this weekend against a Dallas Cowboys defense that has problems covering tight ends. Carson Wentz has slipped a bit over his past two games as well and I believe will be looking Ertz way early and often as his security blanket while building his confidence back. This may be the cheapest you see Ertz for the rest of the season.
Cameron Brate TE Tampa Bay Buccaneers : Draftkings - $3,200
Got to save some money somewhere right? Vincent Jackson is out and Mike Evans can’t do it all by himself. Oakland is a nice matchup for opposing tight ends having given 456 yards and 4 touchdowns this season to the position. They also rank dead last against the pass as a whole. You need about 20 from your tight end to compete for the bigger paydays, Brate can get you there if Jameis can keep his head on straight.
Minnesota Vikings Defense: DraftKings - $4,100
I know that they are the most expensive option this weekend, but I don’t think this is the week that you can skip out on their potential. Against a Bears offense that has been struggling to say the least look for the Vikings defense to hi the field with a purpose after being beat down in week 7. Whomever is starting at QB for the Bears better have their head on a swivel as the Vikings front is going to be flying in from all angles as the look to prove that week 7 was a fluke performance. Don’t be surprised if they take a turnover back to the house.
Tennessee Defense: Draftkings - $2,800
I love football on strange days no matter what. I even love these terrible Thursday night matches we have seen lately! How many times have you popped a beer and hunkered down for a low scoring, hard hitting defensive battle on a fine Thursday evening this year? Feels like every week doesn't it? through 7 weeks the average points total for the Thursday night match up has been 41 - AKA less than the typical lowest over under each week in Vegas. This number bodes well for defenses. It especially bodes well for defenses facing Blake Bortles! The Jags are not going to be able to run against the Titan’s run defense (currently 8th against the run with only 3 rushing touchdowns allowed so far) so they’ll need to pass. Bortles hs been awful, I expect him to stay that way on Thursday night! Save that budget for your offensive studs!
Blake Bortles QB Jacksonville Jaguars : DraftKings - $6,200
30, 27, 4, 21, 26, 8 - these are the scores of the last 6 quarterbacks to face the Oakland Raiders (ESPN standard scoring) the 4 and the 8 are Marcus Mariota and Alex Smith respectively, those low scores are likely their fault. Oakland currently ranks in the top seven in total offense mostly due the fact that they can’t stop anyone! This could easily turn into a shootout with an over under near 50. Bottles is not good at football but he proved last year he can damn good for fantasy football!
Marcus Mariota QB Tennessee Titans : Draftkings - $6,000
After taking care of business against a soft Cleveland Defense last week Mariota and the Titans pull another workable matchup in week 7 with Indianapolis. The Colts secondary has allowed just about every QB that they have faced to do whatever they would like to them and this week will be no different. The Titans will employ a balanced attack with a rejuvenated Demarco Murray that will allow Mariota to pick apart the Colts through the air and to a certain extent on the ground. While his yardage may be under 300 for the day I still see three scores through the air and by ground this weekend.
Demarco Murray Tennessee Titans : DraftKings - $7,200
The colts defense is fresh off a 4th quarter debacle vs Houston last Sunday night where there surrendered 178 total yards and 2 touchdowns to Lamar Miller. I see no fight in that defensive front and see no reason Murray can’t replicate these numbers if not exceed them! the Colts are Bottom 7 vs. the run and give up 117 yards per game to opposing running backs. Think of this as getting that $9,000 stud for $7,200 - Murray is going to run will on sunday.
Jaquizz Rodgers RB Tampa Bay Buccaneers : Draftkings - $4,300
Rodgers has puzzled me throughout his NFL career by looking the part of a starting NFL running back, but then not ever being one. This week he gets another chance to be the lead back against a very weak 49er run defense and he should take full advantage. With his daily cost just about as low as you can get the value that he brings back with be comparable to some of the top names at the position. 120 all-purpose yards and a score are certainly reachable in week 7.
Michael Thomas WR New Orleans Saints: DraftKings - $4,700
While I do believe that Brandin Cooks is the most explosive receiver on the Saints I think that Thomas could be the most well rounded and better example of your prototypical WR in today’s NFL. His size and speed allow him to see red zone targets on a weekly basis as he has scored the last 3 weeks in a row. As we all know New Orleans is a pass first offense and with a pretty soft matchup in week 7 I see the Brees and Thomas train hooking up for some good yardage and another score against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Allen Robinson WR Jacksonville Jaguars : Draftkings - $7,300
This is my stack of the week. Robinson is due for a monster game and Oakland seems to give those out like candy on Halloween. He’s a must start for daily and is likely to be highly owned. Marqise Lee almost got the nod here at $3,200 as a bit of a contrarian matchup play (Lee not Hurns was second on the team in snap count last week) but its important to have Arob in your DraftKings lineup this week. There is a strong bet he’ll be a part of the top money earning rosters come monday.
Kyle Rudolph TE Minnesota Vikings : DraftKings - $3,500
Rudolph has been one of those players on the cusp for a few years and this year the unfortunate injury to Teddy Bridgewater has opened up the opportunity for him to shine. QBs tend to look for that security blanket when they are new in a system and Sam Bradford has certainly found that in the big, quick and sure handed Rudolph. Earlier in the season a matchup against the Eagles may not have been as enticing, but they did just give up 50 yards and a TD to former nursing home resident Vernon Davis so my outlook on Rudolph this week is glowing. I think he grabs 6-7 receptions for 75 yards and a score in week 7.
Hunter Henry TE San Diego Chargers : Draftkings - $3,600
Atlanta is a nice matchup for tight ends. They rank in the bottom 5 vs the pass and Henry has established himself as one of Rivers’ favorite targets in this post Keenan Allen world we live in (still salty about that) The matchup here says it all and you can save a few G’s with a guy like Henry. With 12 targets over the past two weeks he’s a good bet for another 6-8 this week one of which should be a touchdown.
New England Patriots Defense: DraftKings - $2,900
I know theres some risk with the Pittsburgh offense but… Landry Jones. Thats all I need to say, lets make it 4 Pats d/st starts in a row!
Cincinnati Defense: Draftkings - $3,600
I know that the Browns put up some decent numbers against the Titans in week 6, but I think that they will not fare as well in week 7 against the division rival Bengals. Falling behind early the Browns will be forced to throw the ball downfield and that will allow the solid Bengals front 7 to fly to the quarterback causing miscues. I see them sacking the Browns 3-4 times this week with a pick. They may even snag a TD or two from this side of the ball so start with confidence.
Trevor Siemian QB Denver Broncos : DraftKings - $5,200
Really hoping Trevor goes unnoticed this week (despite what my twitter feed would suggest) Thursday nighter, coming off injury, buried way down the list in the $5,000’s maybe his ownership will be moderate despite this juicy matchup. The San Diego Chargers rank in the bottom 5 in passing yards allowed and the bottom 9 in passing touchdowns allowed. Last time Trevor player he lit up the Cincinatti Secondary for 312 and 4 touchdowns. the two defenses are in the same ball park but Cincinnati is generally considered to better than the banged up San Diego defensive backfield. Easy way to save a bundle of your budget without giving up the upside this week!
Derek Carr QB Oakland Raiders : Draftkings - $6,500
Carr has had his fair share of growing pains since entering the NFL in 2015, but I am of the belief that he is now reached the matchup proof level in fantasy football. With a reliable receiver like Michael Crabtree and a big play threat like Amari Cooper I just don’t see many teams being able to match up with them. Squaring off with the division rival Kansas City Chiefs this weekend I see Carr wanting to put a statement out to the rest of the division that he and the Raiders are here to play. Just inside of the top 10 in cost this week among Qbs I expect Carr to put up numbers that put him inside of the top 4 in scoring at his position.
Lesean McCoy RB Buffalo Bills: DraftKings - $6,900
Shady has been on fire the past 3 weeks posting no less than 20.8 points in any given week. These were all against strong run defenses (Arizona - 29.6, New England - 22.8, L.A. - 20.8) The 49ers defense is far worse than any of these three and they have to travel to Buffalo for this matchup. San Fran is 2nd to last in yards allowed having given up over 146 per game on average. They are also bottom 10 in rushing touchdowns allowed with 5. I expect that number to be 7 or 8 by close of business Sunday.
Todd Gurley RB L.A. Rams : Draftkings - $6,700
The Rams have been pretty boring offensively throughout all of 2016 and I don’t expect that to change much over the rest of the year, but this week Gurley gets a Detroit Lions defense that is battered and bruised. Injuries along the line and in the linebacker corps make Gurley an intriguing play for his current cost. I see Gurley outplaying his current value this week and placing among the top 5 in RBs when all is said and done.
Doug Baldwin WR Seattle Seahawks: DraftKings - $6,500
the last time Baldwin faced a secondary as bad as Atlanta’s he hung 33 point on them (San Fran, week 3) Get this, Atlanta’s defense is even worse against the pass than San Fran is! They rank int he bottom 6 in yards allowed and are tied for dead last with Detroit in passing touchdowns allowed (14) As an added bonus Atlanta’s offense is red hot even with Julio getting locked down last week so this could be a high scoring affair. Look for Doug to cross the goal line at least once to go along with 3 figure yardage totals.
John Brown WR Arizona Cardinals : Draftkings - $4,500
Outside of one game this season Brown has been quite a letdown to most daily and regular fantasy football managers. There were certainly high hopes for a receiving corps that was unstoppable at times in 2015. Going up against a battered New York Jets secondary in week 6 should prove to be a solid stepping stone for Brown and the Cardinals offense. Also, with Malcolm Floyd being non-existent Brown should see a significant number of targets this week. With his current cost being nearly rock bottom lock Brown into your lineup as a great value play and target some studs with that extra cash!
Rob Gronkowski TE New England Patriots : DraftKings - $6,700
Any time Gronk isn’t the most expensive TE on the list I’m looking for a reason to plug him. Brady is back and Gronk is healthy, that should be reason enough! Cincinnati isn’t bad against opposing tight ends but they have given up 3 scores in that department. Gronk is $300 less than the weeks top start in Greg Olsen and he’s in sync with Brady. Crazy to say it but this is a little contrarian this week given Bennett’s huge week 5 outing.
Jesse James TE Pittsburgh Steelers : Draftkings - $3,000
In week 6 the Steelers draw the lowly Miami Dolphins and the passing attack should be pretty unstoppable from start to finish. While James may be the least flashy player on this high powered Steelers offense it doesn’t take away from the fact that he is a matchup nightmare for Miami at 6’7” and 261 LBs. If the Steelers are stopped or slowed anywhere around the 15 yard line I see 1 or possibly 2 scores going to James this week and at his current price there isn’t much better value than that.
New England Patriots Defense: DraftKings - $3,700
I don’t see a glaring must start defense this week so I’m rolling with the Pats Defense 3 week sin a row! They are the best value at $3,200 and aside from AJ Green the Cincinnati offense doesn’t particularly scare me. The game is at home in Foxboro where the Pats are damn near undefeated too. I’m not expecting huge numbers but I could see Jeremy Hill putting the ball on the ground here, no? This is very much a “slow the bleeding” kind of pick. Moderate ceiling, Moderate floor.
Pittsburgh Steelers Defense: Draftkings - $3,400
Outside of one poor performance against the Eagles a few weeks back this Steelers group has been its normal hard hitting, blue collar selves. Against a Miami Dolphins team that is currently circling the drain I see them coming up big this week. I wouldn’t be surprised to see some forced fumbles and a pick 6 to go along with Ryan Tannehill being on his back in the dirt multiple times.
Phillip Rivers, QB San Diego Chargers: DraftKings - $6,900
Phil got it going a bit last week vs. Oakland and should continue that success this week against Oakland on the road. The Raiders have the worst pass defense in the NFL having given up over 1,300 yards and 8 touchdowns through the air so far. Rivers is moderately priced and this game has the week’s highest over/under at 50. Combine that with the loss of Verrett on the defensive side (stud cornerback) and we should have us a recipe for fantasy success!
Derek Carr QB Oakland Raiders : Draftkings - $6,800
Week 5 provides a matchup against the San Diego Chargers that is exactly what Carr and the Raiders receivers need to keep the momentum rolling from week 4. Already ranking in the lower rung of secondary’s the Chargers lost Pro Bowl caliber CB Jason Verrett to a partially torn ACL last week which should leave the field wide open for the likes of Carr, Crabtree, Cooper and Walford. I expect a shootout this week with both teams putting up plenty of points so if Carr does not walk away with 300 yards along with a couple of scores I would truly be surprised.
Legarette Blount, RB New England Patriots: DraftKings - $5,600
His price has been creeping up there in recent weeks but Blount is still a steal this week at $5,600. The Pats get Brady back this week and I’m sure he’ll want to punish someone for this latest battle with the league - why not the Browns! The spread is now sitting at a whopping 10.5 points! I try not to predict game flow but I expect the Pats to bury the Browns before halftime leaving plenty of time for Blount to lower the shoulder and rumble away that clock. Check the injury report Sunday but if Blount is playing start him with confidence.
Deandre Washington RB Oakland Raiders : Draftkings - $3,400
For as bad against the pass as they Chargers have been in 2016 they have been pretty bad against the run as well. The Raiders seem to already be moving away from Latavius Murray and there is a really good chance he sits on Sunday with a foot injury. Even though Washington has not had loads of touches he has looked like the most effective runner out of the Oakland backfield. Going up a porous defense will get the youngsters confidence going and should finish the day with a nice stat line at a bargain price.
Travis Benjamin WR San Diego Chargers: DraftKings - $6,500
He has underwhelmed lately but Benjamin is due for a big game and this matchup is perfect. This looks like the shootout of the week with a 50 point line (down from 52.5) and Benjamin brings that big play ability to the table. You want home runs in DFS and many will shy away from Benjamin given Rivers’ short passes of late and Benjamin’s struggles the past two weeks so its pseudo contrarian play. If you’ve blown the budget already grab Tyrell Williams ($4,700) he is tied with Benjamin for the team lead in targets at 28.
Sterling Shepard. : Draftkings - $5,500
After watching the game last Monday I wouldn’t blame you if you steered clear of the Giants receiving corp, but this Sunday night is going to be a different story. I know that Seattle and Denver get the most run as the elite defenses in the NFL, but the Minnesota Vikings look like the most complete defense to me. That being said the Green Bay Packers defense is nowhere near that level and it will show as Shepard and Cruz wreak havoc in the secondary while ODBJ is being double covered. To me I see a statement game out of the rookie where he eclipses 100 yards and hauls in a score in primetime.
Greg Olsen, TE Carolina Panthers : DraftKings - $6,300
Not a dream matchup but Olsen has literally been the mark of consistency through 4 weeks. The reason I say Olsen is so many will shy away from Olsen given Cam’s question mark for Monday night. With that said a big, legit tight end is a great target for a weak back up QB like Anderson if he gets the start. Enough people will shy away from Olsen to potentially make him the difference maker in your weekend tournament.
Zach Ertz TE Philadelphia : Draftkings - $3,500
With an extra week to recover from a rib displacement Ertz is coming back in a week that has a tailor made matchup for him. The Detroit Lions literally cannot contain the receiving TE position as they have given up touchdowns in every game this season to them. Without their playmaker in Deandre Levy it is going to be another tough week as Ertz will be going over the middle and underneath for all 60 minutes. 7-8 receptions combined with 85 yards and a score (maybe two) sounds about right on Sunday.
New England Patriots Defense: DraftKings - $3,700
Yep, I’m taking the Pats defense two weeks in a row. They are among the more expensive options but I expect them to absolutely pile-drive the Browns this week. They are heavily favored and that gap is growing. This is also the week Crowell gets exposed, sell him now if you own him in your weekly fantasy leagues! you’ve been warned.
Minnesota Vikings Defense: Draftkings - $3,400
Week 5 brings the Houston Texans to Minnesota on Sunday afternoon and by Sunday evening those same Texans are going to be wishing they didn’t make the trip I’m afraid. Collectively this Vikings defense has been the best I have seen this season. Someone is always stepping up and making plays, they smother the run, suffocate QBs and don’t allow the deep play. I would not be surprised at all if they take a couple of turnovers back for points this week.
Matthew Stafford, QB Detroit Lions: DraftKings - $7,300
Coming off a big week against the division rival Green Bay Packers Stafford will look to continue his efficient ways against a subpar Chicago Bears defense. The Bears made rookie QB Dak Prescott look like a seasoned vet and being that Stafford is on with lots of experience against Chicago I see him spreading the ball around to a multiple of players and taking some deep shots to his newfound favorite target Marvin Jones. Looking to right the ship and get back to .500 a motivated Stafford should dice up the Chicago defense for around 330 yards and 2-3 scores this weekend.
Joe Flacco QB Baltimore Ravens : Draftkings - $5,900
The Ravens offense has been rather ordinary this year but they have a strong chance to surprise this week vs. the Abysmal Oakland pass defense. Steve Smith Sr. is just getting his legs back and Mike Wallace has shown he can still take the top off of any defense. Combine these two with the emergence of Dennis Pitta and its clear that Flacco has the weapons to get the job done. The Raiders were giving up over 400 passing yards per game before facing the fledgling Titans last week. Flacco’s price frees up a ton of cap space for the rest of your team too, make sure you fit him in a few lineups this weekend.
Melvin Gordon, RB San Diego Chargers: DraftKings - $6,300
Another matchup based play for me this week with Melvin Gordon versus the Chargers this week. No I am not quite fully sold that this year’s Gordon is leaps and bounds above last year’s Gordon (look at his YPC), but after seeing Atlanta decimate the Saints defense on the ground Monday night I believe that Gordon will be seeing some open lanes early in the game. It would be beneficial to see the Chargers jump out to an early lead to maintain his value throughout, but he should be able to do enough damage in the first half to make Gordon a great value play.
Theo Riddick RB Detroit Lions: Draftkings - $5,200
Sneaky contrarian play this week. As my colleague noted Matt Stafford should carve up the Bears defense and he’ll do so using Theo Roddick a good bit. Many will be down on Riddick despite this juicy match up due to his lackluster week 3 outing making this the perfect time to sneak him into your lineup. The cowboys had their way with the Bears last Sunday night and I expect the Lions to do much of the same. Theo’s versatility will keep him in the game in most situations and while he will split time with Washington I’m not worried about his usage. The Lions know he's one of their most effective weapons. Expect his two week hiatus from the end zone to end this sunday in Chicago.
Golden Tate, WR Detroit Lions: DraftKings - $5,800
I know, I know. Tate has been an afterthought so far in 2016 and as I stated earlier Marvin Jones has so far taken over the #1 receiving duties in the Lions offense, but I think this is the week that Tate steps up to the plate. With a terrible linebacker core in Chicago the short, intermediate routes should be open all day which is right in Golden’s wheelhouse. I would not be surprised to see 6-7 receptions this week for around 85 yards and a score.
Steve Smith Sr. : Draftkings - $4,500
Cheap and overlooked. Smith has a prime matchup vs. Oakland this week and many who are looking to the Ravens will be leaning on on the Flacco-Wallace Stack. Steve Smith is primed for a breakout game after having drawn 11 targets last week. He always puts up a huge game early in the season and this looks to be it. For $4,500, you could do far worse.
Dennis Pitta, TE Baltimore Ravens: DraftKings - $3,900
After suffering through injuries throughout his career Pitta never had the opportunity to build on his strong play from early in his career. Coming into 2016 with a clean slate and a healthy Joe Flacco seems to have brought the veteran Raven back into relevance. Week one was not a particularly sparkling performance, but with 15 receptions over his last 2 games it seems to me that Flacco is looking to him as his safety valve. With a weak matchup against the Oakland Raiders this week I think that Pitta hauls in 7-8 receptions with 65-75 yards and a score.
Julius Thomas TE Jacksonville Jaguars : Draftkings - $4,400
Prime “home” Matchup in London. Got to think the English are sick of seeing the Jags lose by now! This is a win both AFC squads desperately need so expect both teams to go all out. I’m expecting a huge passing day for both quarterbacks and Julius should get his feet across the goal line at least once. Many will steer clear of Thomas due to health concerns and a less than perfect matchup but if he plays he could put up big numbers in a semi-contrarian play. The game is bright and early so be sure to check the reports first thing sunday. If he’s out you'll have no problem finding a fill in with his $4,400 price tag.
New England Patriots Defense: DraftKings - $3,300
One thing is for sure and it is the fact that the Patriots do not like Rex Ryan. It does not matter what colors he is wearing or what field they play on New England is going to come out with their ears pinned back. Even after some encouraging play last week for Buffalo I see New England coming out and locking Buffalo down on Sunday. Frustrating rants and raves will be heard from Buffalo fans, players and coaches alike on Monday morning.
Denver Broncos Defense: Draftkings - $3,700
Not the cheapest but not the most expensive either. The Broncos are an elite defense facing a less than perfect Bucs offense in Tampa Bay this weekend. The Pressure better than anyone else in the league and create opportunities for huge fantasy outings every week. The rewards trotting these guys out each week far outweigh any potential risks. Spend a couple extra bucks on the best Defense in the NFL this week.
