Tom Brady (NE)
Draftkings - $7,800 Fanduel - $8,800
Not a whole lot to say here except for the fact that Tom Brady and the Patriots are scorching the earth right now. With a week off to plan and scheme for their upcoming matchup against the Dallas Cowboys I see the Patriots coming out of the gate fast and furious. Sure you are paying a premium for his services, but you can count on a 300 yard game with 2 to 3 scores through the air. Go ahead a splurge on the most dominant player in the game right now.
Jay Cutler (Chi)
Draft kings - $5,300 Fanduel - $7,400
This is the “contrarian” pick of the week in many circle. At the price tag I intend to bite in at least 1 or 2 tournament formats in week 5. It’s a 50-50 chance Cutler gets Alshon Jeffery back this week and even if he doesn’t the Chiefs secondary has been so bad it may not matter. Cutler is going to get sacked – there is no doubt about that - but all that heat begs for screens and there may not be a better pass catching back in the game than Matt Forte. This is a save your money for other positions sort of pick but the matchup is right and the masses will steer clear – could pay off big come Sunday!
Running Backs –
Todd Gurley (STL)
Draftkings - $4,300 Fanduel - $6,700
Welcome to the big show Todd Gurley! Last week showed why the St. Louis running back was so coveted even after coming off a major injury that ended his 2014 college season early. The Green Bay Packers area solid defense no doubt, but are certainly susceptible to the run giving up almost 5 yards a carry on the season. I expect to see a heavy dose of Gurley right out of the gate as the Rams try to slow down the Packers extremely potent offense. I see another 100 yards and a score or two out of the rookie in week 5.
Justin Forsett (BAL)
Draftkings - $5,800 Fanduel - $7,200
Forsett finally got rolling last week going against the grain on a relatively stingy Steelers run defense. It was a great time to get rolling with Cleveland coming to town this week and Steve Smith Sr. going down to some sort of vast back injury. I expect Forsett to continue his roll from last week and expand on his production with the offense turning to him more often than not to churn out first downs. Cleveland sports one of the league’s worst rush defenses and unlike Melvin Gordon in week 4, Forsett will get the touches to exploit it in week 5.
Wide Receivers –
Julian Edelman (NE)
Draftkings - $7,000 Fanduel - $7,400
Sure Gronkowski is an un-guardable beast that the offense runs through in New England, but Edelman is another key cog in the wheel that is the Patriots offense. Not only is he a threat to haul in 10 receptions in any given game he can also catch a screen and fire a laser like pass over an un-expecting defense. Given the week off to put together some trick and gadget plays I think that Edelman will be all over the field in week 5 and could end up with 100 all-purpose yards on 7 to 8 receptions while adding a score. Go ahead and stack him with confidence.
James Jones (GB)
Draftkings - $5,700 Fanduel - $6,400
If you blow your budget on Aaron Rodgers and like to stack (if you enjoy winning I would certainly advise doing so) don’t try to find a way to pair Rogers with Cobb – Jones is so much cheaper. His touchdown streak broke last week but he still hung 5 for 98 on San Fran. Jones is locked in as Aaron Rogers WR2 which in fantasy is gold. The price is crazy given his ceiling and the relatively high floor he has displayed. Matchup be damned – James Jones at this price is my lock of the week.
Tight Ends –
Tyler Eifert (CIN)
Draftkings - $4,600 Fanduel - $5,600
This week the Bengals draw a tough matchup in Week 5 as they have the Seattle Seahawks coming to town. With very few weaknesses on defense it is hard to pick your point of attack as the opposing offense, but they have been weak at covering the TE position. I think with the constant barrage up blitzes that the Seahawks employ it opens up the middle of the field for opposing tight ends and Eifert should put up solid numbers this week. 60 to 70 yards with a score should shore up the position for you at a fraction of the cost of other top options.
Draftkings - $5,000 Fanduel - $5,900
24 targets in the past 3 weeks is pretty darn good and the Chiefs pass defense is pretty darn bad. Alshon could be back and I hope he is to draw some attention off of Bennett. Either way, Bennet will eat and should score. He’s a good value stack with Cutler at this price. He should be owned by a good number of players but not nearly as many as the Gronk, Eifert and Kelce owners. He’s a high profile yet sneaky play this week.
Broncos Defense –
Draftkings - $3,600 Fanduel $4,900
I am fully on the Oakland Raiders bandwagon this year as I love the young talent that they have developing in their system, but this week they face one of the best blitzing defenses in the NFL today. Although Derek Carr and the Raiders have some familiarity with the system that the Broncos run being division and rivals and all I see the front 7 being too much for them to handle in week 5. Derek Carr will be on his back fairly often this Sunday and will get caught forcing a few throws leading to a pick or two.
Cardinals Defense –
Draftkings - $3,800 Fanduel - $5,200
I am a Detroit fan, it’s painful but true. The Cardinal’s defense is very talented but have been all or nothing from a fantasy perspective. I’m betting on their stranglehold ability putting the finishing move on Detroit and sending them into an absolute tailspin. I like Jim Caldwell as a coach but when you hear player talking in the media like Golden Tate did last week I think it’s clear he is losing his hold on the locker room. If Detroit struggles early this one could get ugly fast. Az will either score 19 or 5 – high ceiling, low floor. Worth my $5,200
