Fantasy Football Trade Targets – Pre-season
Draft day is over. The 2015 season looms on the horizon and I can’t wait. As The Trade Expert I expect most of my work to come in around week 3 when owners start to panic but this year is a little different. This year has yet to begin yet here I find myself flooded with pre-season trade inquires! I ask “why did you draft that team if you are already looking to trade it all away?” but before I utter those words I stop and think “why am I The Trade Expert?” Is it because I answer thousands of trade inquiries a week? No. Is it because I understand value beyond the stat sheets and talking heads? No. I am the Trade Expert because I Love making deals happen. The Art of the Deal is what drives me, it’s what motivates me. I may love making trades more than I love playing fantasy football itself. Also, let’s be honest – I love people that love trading so much they are willing to do so before the 2015 kick –off! (Wouldn’t be here without you guys!)
Throughout this pre-season I’ve noticed trends: players people repeatedly seem willing to move, players people are extremely high on, even players people are trying to sell low on – a big no-no in my book! Call it a stock watch if you will, call it insight if you prefer, call it whatever you like – below are a few questions that keep coming up in recent trade inquires.
Should I trade Deandre Hopkins?
People are seemingly quite willing to move this guy which to me signals that he can be had for under market value. This is a guy who went for over 1,200 yards and 6 Touchdowns on 76 receptions last season, so why are people trying to move him? My guess is the quarterback. What these folks are forgetting is that Hopkins put up there very respectable numbers with a platoon of nonsense playing quarterback in Houston. Do I like Brian Hoyer? No not really but he has been successful in years past with young receivers primed for the big time – see Gordon, Josh. If you can buy him at under market value right now do so and laugh all the way to the bank!
Is Lesean McCoy going to be any good? Should I be worried about Lesean McCoy?
This one has been blowing up more and more as we approach kick-off. I understand the concern with McCoy’s injury but he is trending in the right direction to start week 1 taking part in individual drills (keep an eye on practice reports but this isn’t a guy who needs a lot of reps to be successful) Even if he sits out a week I’m still buying him – the hate has officially gone too far! I know it’s a new team for McCoy but this is a guy who hung 1,319 rushing yards and 5 Touchdowns in a down year! If you’ve got someone in your league shopping him you should listen! Play into his injury concerns and buy McCoy low!
What players should I offer to get Jeremy Hill?
Love this one! “Here is my whole team! Take whatever you like and deposit Jeremy Hill!” Look, I think Hill is going to have a big year building on his 2014 success and it seems people are willing to pay top dollar for him right now. I personally am hanging on to him in as many leagues as I can. That said, If someone throws an Alfred Morris and Andre Johnson offer at me I’m strongly considering it even if I don't need help at wide receiver. Neither running back is going to catch a lot of passes and a high upside receiver never hurts to roster. Do I like Hill more than Morris? Of course I do but if the offer is right I just may bite! Morris had a lower YPC last season but if you look at the 2014 numbers they aren’t too far apart. Yes I know Hill didn’t have the full reigns right off the bat but let’s look at it – Alfred had 43 more carries than Hill and one less Touchdown. Hill had 50 more yards than Morris. Hill should finish better but they are in the comparable ballparks and hey – anything can happen!
These are just a few trends I am noticing in the early going. I’m not saying rush out and make these deals but keep this info in the back of your head when the trade-hawks come swooping in.
